Can I register a trademark online in the UAE?

Yes – trademark registration in the UAE is 100% online. There is no paper filing and no visit to a ministry. Everything from search to certificate happens on the Ministry of Economy & Tourism (MoET) e-services portal, either by the applicant (UAE residents and companies) or by a registered trademark agent (mandatory for applicants based abroad).

The six online steps

Step 1 – Search the register (AED 350 official inquiry)

Before paying anything, run a search on the MoET trademark database for identical and similar marks in your class. The application fee is non-refundable, and the UAE is a first-to-file country, so a five-minute search can save AED 750 and months of delay. How to search the MoET database →

Step 2 – Prepare the file

Logo or word mark, class and goods list in Arabic and English, licence or ID, and a legalised power of attorney for foreign applicants. Full document checklist →

Step 3 – File and pay AED 750

Log in with UAE Pass, open Register Trademark, complete the form, upload the documents and pay AED 750. Optional: add one-day examination for AED 2,250 if you need a fast decision.

Step 4 – Examination (1–3 months, or 1 day if expedited)

MoET examines the mark for conflicts with earlier marks and for absolute grounds under the Trademark Law (descriptive terms, public order, flags and emblems, etc.). Outcomes:

Step 5 – Publication and opposition (AED 750, 30 days)

Within 30 days of the acceptance decision, pay the AED 750 publication fee. The mark is published in the Trademark Bulletin, which MoET issues twice a month. Third parties have 30 days from the bulletin date to oppose. Late payment of the publication fee costs AED 100 per month.

Step 6 – Final registration (AED 5,000) and certificate

If no opposition is filed (or after it is decided in your favour), pay the AED 5,000 final fee within 30 days after the opposition period ends. The electronic registration certificate is issued within about 30 days and downloaded from your portal workspace. Late payment costs AED 1,000 per month.

Who can file online themselves?

Even applicants who can file themselves usually use an agent for the Arabic goods specification, for handling office actions, and for monitoring the opposition period. We file, track and collect the certificate for a fixed fee – get a quote.

After registration

Your mark is protected for 10 years from the filing date across all seven emirates. Record it with UAE Customs if you import goods, monitor the Bulletin for conflicting applications, and diarise the renewal date. Want protection abroad? See international registration through the Madrid Protocol.
