Are there any additional fees for trademark renewal in the UAE

Short answer: the standard renewal costs AED 6,500 per class (AED 750 publication + AED 5,750 renewal) when filed during the tenth year. Additional costs arise in four situations.

1. Renewing late – AED 750 more

If you file within the six-month grace period after the expiry date, the renewal fee rises to AED 6,500, making the total AED 7,250. After six months there is no renewal at all: the mark lapses and a new application (AED 6,500, with examination and opposition again) is the only route.

2. Recording changes before you renew

MoET refuses a renewal if the owner's name, legal form or address on the register does not match the current trade licence. Each recordal – change of name, change of address, assignment to a new owner – is a separate paid service and must be completed before the renewal is filed. Allow a few weeks for this.

3. Agent and document costs

Filing through a trademark agent adds the agent's professional fee. Owners outside the UAE must use an agent and provide a notarised, legalised and translated power of attorney, which costs money in the home country as well.

4. Certified copies

A certified copy of the renewal certificate costs AED 150 if you need one for customs recordal, licensing or litigation.
