Documents Required for Trademark Registration in the UAE (2026 Checklist)
UAE Trademarks · Published 2024-11-24 · Updated · 2 min read
The Ministry of Economy & Tourism (MoET) accepts trademark applications entirely online, but it rejects incomplete files. Here is exactly what to prepare, depending on who is applying.
Core documents – every application
Document
Requirements
The trademark itself
A clear image file (JPG or PNG) of the word, logo or combined mark. For word marks, the text as it will be registered; for logos, the exact artwork and colours you want protected.
List of goods or services
The class number and a description of the goods/services, in Arabic and English, following the Nice Classification (13th edition from January 2026). One application per class – see the classes list.
Applicant details
Full legal name, nationality, legal form, address, email and phone, in Arabic and English, exactly as they appear on the licence or passport.
If the applicant is a UAE company or establishment
Valid trade licence (a copy is uploaded; the licence must be current on the filing date).
If the licence activity does not obviously cover the goods/services, MoET may ask for clarification, but it is not a strict requirement.
If the applicant is an individual resident in the UAE
Passport copy and Emirates ID.
No trade licence is required when filing in a personal name.
If the applicant is outside the UAE (foreign company or individual)
Foreign applicants cannot file directly. The application must be submitted by a UAE-registered trademark agent, and you must provide:
Power of attorney in favour of the agent, notarised in your home country and legalised up to the UAE embassy or consulate (or apostilled where the UAE accepts apostilles), then translated into Arabic by a UAE-licensed legal translator.
Copy of the company's certificate of incorporation or commercial register extract (or passport for individuals).
Allow 2–4 weeks to complete notarisation and legalisation before filing. MoET's Administrative Decision No. 2 of 2026 introduced a temporary extension for submitting legalised documents – ask us whether it applies to your filing.
If you are claiming priority
If you filed the same mark in another Paris Convention country within the last 6 months, you can claim that earlier date in the UAE. Provide:
A certified copy of the earlier application from the foreign trademark office.
An Arabic translation of it.
Special mark types
Collective marks (used by members of an association): the association's articles, a statement of who may use the mark, and the rules governing its use.
Quality/certification marks: the standards the mark certifies and evidence of the applicant's competence to control them. Final registration fee for quality marks is AED 7,500 instead of AED 5,000.
Common reasons applications are rejected on documents
Applicant name on the form does not match the trade licence character-for-character.
Power of attorney not legalised, or legalised but not translated.
Logo uploaded in low resolution or with a different colour scheme from the one intended.
Goods description copied from another country's filing and not aligned with the UAE's accepted class headings.
Expired trade licence.
